Archivio Carlo Sini: https://archiviocarlosini.it/ Art For Business: the philosopher's head and the head of Orpheus (2010) CARLO SINI begins with the head of Pythagoras. Why is there only the head? Looking for an answer, the philosopher recalls the myth of Orpheus, poet and musician, whose song was sweet, fascinating and, for this reason, capable of slowing the flow of water, moving the woods, moving the birds. On the wedding day, the nymph Euridice, his fiancée, tragically dies after being bitten by a snake; Orpheus, desperate, decides to go and get her back in the dark kingdom of the dead. His melodious singing moves and convinces the queen of the underworld, Persephone, to give him back Eurydice: she accepts, but on the condition that the nymph follows him along the dark road to Hades and that Orpheus never turns to look at her before reaching the world of the living. The fear of losing her and the desire to see her will lead Orpheus to turn around, thus losing Eurydice forever. Orpheus will always remain faithful to his love and, for this faithfulness, pushed to the point of misogyny, will be killed by the Maenads, the priestesses of Dionysus, who will throw his remains into the river. His head, however, having fallen on the lyre, will remain afloat in the water, and Orpheus will continue to sing forever.
