Cardiac arrhythmias can be treated! In the Ligado em Saúde program, produced by FioCruz, cardiologist Washington Maciel, head of the Cardiac Arrhythmias and Pacemaker Service at the Instituto Estadual de Cardiologia Aloysio de Castro (IECAC), explains what a cardiac arrhythmia is, what the frequencies are and heart rhythms, the risk of Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) and the sequelae in more serious cases, such as Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), which can be triggered as a result of Atrial Fibrillation, a type of arrhythmia that affects more than 10% of world population, especially elderly people over 70 years of age. Canal Saúde also interviewed pacemaker wearer Aline Rocha, who tells her story with cardiac arrhythmia, how she discovered the disease and illustrates what it is like to live with a cardiac pacemaker. Aline has participated in more than 80 street races and talks about the importance of discipline and physical activity. For her, “cardiac arrhythmia is a serious disease, but the correct diagnosis is essential, as is the good relationship you must have with your doctor and understanding that the patient has to do their part too”. #CardiacArrhythmias #pacemaker #physicalactivity #cardiology #SOBRAC #FioCruz #AtrialFibrillation #stroke #health
