Unless you happened to have had a heart examination recently and were hooked up to an EKG, you could have cardiac arrhythmias and not even know it. Cardiac arrhythmias are one of the most common heart diseases and we doctors are recording an ever-increasing incidence and, unfortunately, mortality. Why? Because we are getting older and – paradoxically – also because of improved diagnostic and therapeutic options. The most common cardiac arrhythmia, and the technical term for this is arrhythmia, is so-called atrial fibrillation. But there are others and while atrial fibrillation is relatively harmless, ventricular fibrillation is an absolute emergency. 4 important forms that I explain in more detail in the video: 1. Atrial flutter: the problem lies in the atria, which move around 250-350 times per minute 2. Atrial fibrillation: the problem lies in the atria, which move around 350-600 times per minute 3. Ventricular flutter and 4. Ventricular fibrillation: are an absolute medical emergency because the blood transport and pumping performance of the heart decrease significantly. This can lead to cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrhythmia: what is it actually? Put simply, cardiac arrhythmia is any deviation of the heart rate from the normal range. We doctors distinguish between 3 different types of cardiac arrhythmia. In bradycardia, the heart beats too slowly, and in tachycardia, or racing heart, the heart beats too quickly. The third variant is irregularities in the heartbeat, which are called arrhythmias. Our heart rhythm is the result of electrical impulses that stimulate the heart to beat. These impulses arise in the right atrium of the heart. From there, they spread out and ensure that the blood is pumped on. The impulse is passed on in the ventricles and from there reaches the apex of the heart. There, it triggers another pumping movement and the blood enters the large bloodstream. Cardiac arrhythmias arise when errors occur at one point in this chain of conduction, for example, the impulse is not passed on correctly or too many impulses are generated. The causes are varied and there can be many other reasons besides heart disease. These can be 1) electrolyte imbalances, 2) high blood pressure, 3) underactive or overactive thyroid. But too much 4) alcohol or an 5) electrical accident can just as easily throw the heart out of rhythm. Overall, there are many influencing factors that we cannot precisely control. ▬ About this channel ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ With “Video Visit Dr. Weigl” you have found the current and medical-scientific channel that describes topics relating to pain, #medicine and #health in an understandable way but based on facts, guidelines and studies. ▬ Even more videos ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Most common cardiac arrhythmia - atrial fibrillation: https://bit.ly/Vorhofflimmern_Video Everything about atherosclerosis and the consequences: https://bit.ly/Atherosklerose_Video Heart attack due to cardiac arrhythmia: https://bit.ly/Herzinfarkt_Video Causes and consequences of high blood pressure: https://bit.ly/BluthochdruckUrsachenF...
