SYNOPSIS Located in the southwest of Minas Gerais, the Serra da Canastra region remains a haven of nature. It is home to endemic species and endangered animals, such as the Maned Wolf and the Giant Anteater, and springs such as the São Francisco River and many others that supply its river basin. The presence of traditional communities amidst this environmental wealth is surprising and reveals an interesting subject to be portrayed. These are people who were born and raised in contact with this environment and survive after decades of many changes. With difficult access to cities, having to travel along long dirt roads and crossing valleys and rivers, centuries-old traditions have remained preserved in Canastra, like an old trunk full of stories and memories. Without knowing how many generations will experience these customs inherited from times of colonization, mining, sugar mills and cattle grazing, we have printed a portrait in the documentary film Canastra.
