Can I use a single circuit with a 220V phase-to-phase bipolar circuit breaker and install 127V and 220V sockets in this circuit? We then have a 220V phase-to-phase power supply passing through a bipolar circuit breaker. Let's imagine correctly sized conductors and circuit breakers. This phase-to-phase circuit is then distributed with a protective conductor and a neutral conductor. 2 127V and 2 220V sockets are installed along the circuit. Does the standard allow this? There is no item in NBR-5410 that prohibits this practice. NBR-5410 only mentions that the neutral cannot be common to more than one circuit and in the case of our example this does not occur, since it is common to more than one 127V outlet and these outlets are on the same circuit. Furthermore, as in 6.2.6.2.2 NBR-5410 determines that the neutral conductor of a single-phase circuit must have the same cross-section as the phase conductor, and this may lead to a different interpretation, that is, someone may end up thinking that since it is not a single-phase circuit, I do not need to comply with this item and since in my case the 220V loads will have higher currents, I calculated the 4 mm² conductor for the phases, but for the neutral I will use 2.5 mm², since the 127V loads will have lower currents. However, in 6.2.6.2.4 NBR-5410 determines that the cross-section of the neutral conductor of a circuit with two phases and neutral must not be less than the cross-section of the phase conductors. It is also worth remembering that if the circuit breaker is turned off intentionally or automatically, both phases will also be turned off and none of the 127V or 220V outlets will remain energized. This means that if someone turns it off intentionally, there would be no problem for the circuit or for anyone working on it. In the case of overload or short circuit, which would cause automatic shutdown, there would also be no problem, since short and overload detection is done by the circuit breaker poles individually. So yes, I can connect 127V and 220V outlets in the same circuit as long as it is for general use, the neutral cross-section is at least equal to that of the phases and all the sizing criteria of NBR-5410 are met: Current carrying capacity, protection against overloads, short circuits, electric shocks, voltage drops and minimum cross-sections.
