The first big highlight follows on Saturday evening (August 24, 2024): the traditional torchlight procession. The riflemen's corps and platoons present their self-made illuminated floats. The 100 brightly lit so-called large torches are pushed through the city center. Unlike carnival processions, the floats are not pulled by tractors, but only moved by the muscle power of the riflemen. There are plenty of local references: the cannabis ban on the festival grounds is discussed, as is the upcoming state garden show in Neuss. Sideswipes at big politics are also not to be missed when tens of thousands of people applaud the creative riflemen on the side of the road. One large torch will stand out in particular this year: the falconers of the riflemen's corps and residents of the Herz-Jesu nursing home have joined forces for a joint generational project.
