A year after Robert Fico took office as Slovak Prime Minister, many things have changed. His foreign policy has caused Slovakia to enter partial international isolation, at least in relation to its Western European allies in the EU. The Visegrad Group is also “on ice” due to disagreements over Slovakia’s and Hungary’s relationship with the Ukrainian war. However, Prime Minister Fico was the first European prime minister in the era of Putin’s war to appear on the Russian propaganda program 60 Minutes, where he complained about EU countries that were allegedly prolonging the war in Ukraine by supplying weapons. It is difficult to say whether he realized that he was talking to a representative of a country that, according to international institutions, has more political prisoners today than in the Brezhnev era. It is logical that Fial’s government does not want to hold joint cabinet meetings with a country with such an anti-Western policy. In the podcast, both authors emphasize that they may have reservations about the foreign activities of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, but they must admit that he pursues Hungarian national interests. Prime Minister Fico's policy is more of an imitation of Orbán. The question is whether Andrej Babiš will follow Fico in his politics, because he has already copied many things from him in the past. Will this create some version of a populist Czechoslovakia?
