Steep slopes and dry stone walls are typical features of the Moselle landscape. The tradition of building dry stone walls is a craft that is thousands of years old. Thanks to these dry stone walls, built by winegrowers, it is possible to grow and cultivate wine on the steep slopes of the Moselle. But this unique craft is in danger of being lost due to structural changes in winegrowing. To counteract this, the DLR Mosel offers courses on building and maintaining dry stone walls. The video illustrates the basic principles and manual steps involved in building a dry stone wall. It also gives a small insight into the impressive biodiversity of the wine-growing landscape, which is largely shaped by the dry stone walls. Have fun discovering and building!
