How do you build a halfway decent recording studio in your house? It's the same problem everywhere. It echoes like crazy, there's always a cable missing and somewhere UFO frequencies are fluttering through the soundtrack. Now I've had enough and bought myself a new studio for Christmas. I've just measured everything with a measuring microphone and planned absorbers + bass traps to get the crap under control. I've also finally built a decent studio table with an extendable master keyboard (M-Audio Oxygen 88). Then I decoupled the studio monitors (ADAM-A7), defined a decent listening position, bought a new sound card (Presonus FireStudio Project) with a few more inputs, a headphone amplifier (ART Headamp 6 Pro) so that you can finally listen with several people and bought a few other bits and pieces. Now it's not only sexy, but the reverberation time in the studio is down to under 200ms. Now you can finally check whether you want reverb or not :) Since a bit of technical nonsense had to be explained here and I kept finding new instruments, the video only starts after 2 minutes of running. I hope you can hold out that long. But if you don't have any money and still want to make a bit of music, you might find some useful information here somewhere. Oh, and if anyone dares to try it: you can download the software for measuring the room for free here: http://www.roomeqwizard.com/ And if anyone wants to hear even more music.
