Shinran believed in Amida Buddha's original vow and was deeply grateful for the joy of encountering the teachings of Nembutsu through the guidance of the Sutra of Immeasurable Life and seven high priests from India, China, and Japan. Wasan is a song that praises the spirit of Kyogyoshinshō in Japanese (Japanese language). The eighth patriarch, Rennyo Shonin, added Nembutsu to the Shoshinge Nembutsu-ge and Wasan, and established it as the service of Jodo Shinshu.
