Real name: Siddhartha Gautama "Siddhartha" means "one who has achieved his goal" ■Birth: Around 563 BC, in Lumbini (present-day Nepal) Buddha was born as a prince in the kingdom of the Shakya clan ■Family background: Raised in a wealthy royal family, his father was Suddhodana, the king of the Shakya kingdom, and he was promised a wealthy life from the moment he was born ■Childhood: His father raised him in luxury in the palace to protect him from suffering Buddha spent his time unaware of the suffering of the outside world ■Marriage: Married Yashodara at the age of 16, and later had a son Rahula He lived a happy family life, but began to feel dissatisfied in his heart ■Turning point: At the age of 29, he left the palace and encountered the "Four Gates of Wandering" (old age, sickness, death, and ascetics). Buddha faced the sufferings of life (birth, old age, sickness, and death) and began to question material happiness. ■Leftovers: He left his family and the palace to seek the truth, and became a monk. He began his journey to abandon material life and seek spiritual enlightenment. ■Training: He practiced asceticism and meditation for six years, but realized that he could not reach the truth even with harsh training. He came to the idea of the "middle way" and abandoned extreme asceticism. ■Enlightenment: At the age of 35, he deepened his meditation under the Bodhi tree and attained enlightenment (realization) before dawn. Buddha mastered the teachings of the "Four Noble Truths (suffering, accumulation, elimination, and path)" and the "Eightfold Path," and became a Buddha (the awakened one). ■Propagation: After attaining enlightenment, he preached his teachings throughout India, increasing the number of his disciples. He taught people about liberation from suffering and the middle way throughout his life. ■Year of Death: He passed away (died) around 483 BC in Kushinagar (present-day India). It is said that Buddha entered Nirvana at the age of 80. ------------------------------------------------ Audio: VOICEVOX: Aoyama Ryusei ------------------------------------------------
