Learn lessons for living tomorrow from the defeats of Sanada Masayuki, a famous general who twice defeated the Tokugawa army during the Sengoku period. Born in 1547 to a family of Shinano no Kuni no Kami, Masayuki grew up under the tutelage of Takeda Shingen of Kai. After his two older brothers were killed in battle at the Battle of Nagashino and Shitarahara, he inherited the family headship and became a senior retainer of the Takeda clan, but when the Takeda clan was destroyed, he tried to survive by changing allies to Oda, Uesugi, Hojo, and Tokugawa. He came into conflict with Tokugawa Ieyasu over the Numata domain and successfully repelled the Tokugawa army. He then served Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but after Hideyoshi's death, when the Toyotomi daimyo were divided into two factions and fought each other, Masayuki and his second son Nobuyuki joined the Western Army. He fought against the large army led by Tokugawa Hidetada at Ueda Castle and succeeded in reducing their power, but the Battle of Sekigahara ended in a crushing victory for the Eastern Army in just half a day, and Masayuki was forced to surrender Ueda Castle. After that, he was forced to live in seclusion at Mt. Koya, entrusting his dream of defeating Ieyasu to Nobuyuki and quietly passing away. Was there no way for Masayuki to defeat Ieyasu? Ueda Castle, the base where he defeated the large Tokugawa army, was then completely destroyed by Ieyasu. What kind of castle was the Sanada clan's castle? Exiled to Mt. Koya, Masayuki's health deteriorated and he gradually weakened, but even in such a difficult situation, he predicted that a battle would break out between Tokugawa and Toyotomi someday and taught Nobuyuki how to fight. After 11 years in exile, Masayuki died at the age of 65. It was three years later that Nobuyuki escaped from Mt. Koya and headed for Osaka Castle.
