We explore the lessons to live for tomorrow from the defeat of Murasaki Shikibu, famous as the author of "The Tale of Genji." Born in 973 as the second daughter of Fujiwara Tametoki, a lower-ranking aristocrat and poet, Murasaki Shikibu married Fujiwara Nobutaka, an aristocrat who was almost old enough to be her father, in her mid-20s. The following year, she gave birth to a daughter and found modest happiness. However, Nobutaka died suddenly, and Murasaki Shikibu took up her pen to ease her sorrow. This was the birth of "The Tale of Genji," which is considered the pinnacle of Japanese classical literature. The reputation of "The Tale of Genji" reached the powerful Fujiwara Michinaga of the time, and Murasaki Shikibu was selected as a lady-in-waiting to Michinaga's daughter, Shoshi, who became the Empress of Emperor Ichijo, and began serving at the palace. However, Murasaki Shikibu, who was proud and not good at socializing, was unable to adapt to her surroundings, and after just a few days she fled the palace and retreated to her parents' home. What did her months of seclusion bring to her life? And how was this epic tale of love, hate, and the power struggle between men and women spun? A book written more than 200 years after Murasaki Shikibu's death states that she lied and was sent to hell. Why did this legend come about? While Murasaki Shikibu Diary contains public records such as the scene of Akiko's birth, it also contains various private details, such as criticism of Sei Shonagon and her colleagues. For a long time it was thought that she had written it only for herself, but in recent years a new theory has emerged. For whom did Murasaki Shikibu write and leave her diary?
