Hirosaki is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful towns, including Hirosaki Castle, famous for its cherry blossoms, and modern buildings from the Meiji and Taisho periods. It is also famous for its apples, which are representative of Aomori, and its traditional culture, such as the Neputa festival and Tsugaru shamisen, is widely known. This time, Nakayama will walk through one of the most beautiful towns in the Tohoku region, and enjoy the spectacular views and delicious food that only Hirosaki can offer! Starting from Shunyo Bridge in Hirosaki Park, Nakayama stops by a farm produce store he found along the moat. In the store, which is lined with fresh, seasonal vegetables made by local farmers, the apples stand out in particular. He met an apple farmer here and was given the opportunity to try some freshly picked apples. We bite into a yellow apple called "Star Gold Coin" and are overwhelmed by the freshness and sweetness that fills our mouths! We are also impressed by the energy and power of the Hirosaki Neputa festival at a facility where you can observe the traditional culture of Tsugaru! We also try playing the taiko drums! We also try "Iga Menchi," a home-cooked dish that has been popular in Hirosaki for a long time, at a long-established local restaurant. "Iga" means "squid" in Tsugaru dialect. The simple taste of the fried squid tentacles and vegetables is heartwarming. We are also very satisfied with the "Scallop Shell Yaki Miso," which is cooked in a scallop shell instead of a pot! After the meal, we stop by a long-established coffee shop and are fascinated by the "Samurai Coffee" brewed in a teapot and a burlap bag. We learn that it was the first coffee drunk by the Hirosaki samurai in Japan as a commoner during the Edo period, and we think back to that time.
