About :

Welcome to Brăila! Today we take a walk through Brăila and together with Lâlă Gabriel we begin to discover the unknown histories of the city. We start the tour at the Public Clock which was made possible with the help of the donation of the Braila resident Petru Naum and we tell how lively life was in the Port of Brăila decades ago. We discover interesting passages of the history written by Gheorghe Munteanu Murgoci in the Geography of Romania book from 1940 and we continue our journey crossing Traian Square where we find a former Muslim Mosque transformed into an Orthodox church dedicated to Saints Michael and Gabriel, an Orthodox Church without towers that has on its facade the faces of Ana and Nedelcu Chercea, the family that invested all their wealth in Brăila, leaving beautiful buildings to the people of Brăila. At a short distance from us we see the former French Hotel where the Brăila Carol I Museums are located, we pass by the statue of Emperor Trajan and then we make a list of the important personalities that Brăila has given, such as: Hariclea Darclee, Maria Filotti, Petre Stefănescu Goangă, the scientists Mihail Sebastian, Panait Istrati, Nae Ionescu. Constantin Hepites who wrote the first pharmaceutical prescription of medicines, his son Stefan Hepites who established the first weather station in Romania. Ana Aslan famous for the treatments of the premises of an active longevity, who has the memorial house on the street that bears her name. Also on this street we find the Church of Saint Nicholas which has an interesting story that Gabriel makes available to us. We arrive at the street with umbrellas today called Mihai Eminescu, formerly Ulița cu Prăvălii, formerly Calea București, formerly Ulița Kiseleff, formerly Strada Regală where we find many historical buildings, Maria Filotti Theater, Hotel Pescăruș and we make a short stop in front of the Bancotescu house which is about to be restored. We also learn that in Brăila the first telephone conversation took place between 2 Romanian cities, Brăila and Galați. and that the Bulgarian flag was created in Brăila. We cannot discount the legend of Terente and finally arrive at the Museum of Humor where we talk to the caricaturist Costel Pătrățcan with whom we discover this beautiful art of caricature.
