The Bernese Oberland is one of the most beautiful regions in Switzerland and always attracts hikers and nature lovers. In this essay I would like to report on my experience on the way to Höch Gumme. The starting point of my hike was the Brünig Pass, from where I made my way to Wilerhorn. The steep path required a few breaks, as I had already hiked a route the day before and was not quite fit again. Nevertheless, I finally reached the summit of Wilerhorn, where a breathtaking view awaited me. On one side I could see Lake Lungern all the way to Lake Sarnen, on the other side stretched Lake Brienz with the Brienzer Rothorn and the famous Brienzergrat. The descent from Wilerhorn to Hörnli went smoothly at first, until my legs suddenly cramped and I was forced to abort. Despite the disappointment of the missing 200 meters of altitude to Höch Gumme, I set off for home, which fortunately passed without further incidents. As a reward, I treated myself to a refreshing beer in a pub. Overall, it was a great hike that motivated me to set off again eight days later to Höch Gumme, this time from Lungern. On this occasion, I finally managed to reach the summit and enjoy the fantastic view. The hike to Höch Gumme was an educational experience for me and showed me that it is important to listen to your body and not to overdo it. Despite the initial failure, it was ultimately an unforgettable experience that I would happily repeat again.
