Since 2019, Boris Johnson has led both the Tories as party leader and Great Britain as Prime Minister. After many scandals and great pressure from his own party ranks, he has announced his resignation. Partygate, donation scandals, misguided corona policy and allegations of abuse against conservative politicians have led to great discontent among the population and also among his party colleagues. For a long time, it seemed as if Johnson was surviving scandal after scandal without having to resign. In the middle of the lockdown, for example, he held parties that were later made public through videos. However, the protests against the British Prime Minister grew louder from scandal to scandal. The straw that broke the camel's back was the so-called Pincher affair. Deputy parliamentary group leader Chris Pincher was accused of sexual harassment in several cases. Johnson repeatedly stated that he knew nothing about the allegations when he promoted Pincher. Now he has announced that he will resign in stages: first as party leader and as Prime Minister only when a successor has been elected.
