Exactly five months after the last G4 solar storm, the northern lights could once again be clearly seen in Germany. Report: Before sunset, we headed to the Harz lee to observe the first northern lights shortly after sunset as the clouds cleared. Once we arrived, the last showers passed through. Just as the astronomical insulation set in, the sky cleared up so that we could observe the first substorm from around 8:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. CEST. The second substorm hit Earth from around 10:15 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. CEST. The northern lights were reflected in impressively bright colors in the puddles on the dirt road. A SAR ARC, a stable red aurora arc, was also visible. New clouds were moving in from the west, so we moved to Easter to observe the third substorm from around 1:10 a.m. to 1:45 a.m. CEST. Visually, very bright green aurora borealis is now appearing in the night sky, as is otherwise known from northern latitudes such as Scandinavia. We return home with great impressions.
