It was learned on the 17th that actor Nishida Toshiyuki, beloved for his warm acting and starring in the "Tsuribaka Nisshi" film series and NHK's historical dramas, has passed away at his home in Tokyo. He was 76 years old. He was born in Fukushima Prefecture. He joined the Gekidan Seinenza theater company in 1970. He appeared in many TV dramas, such as "Journey to the West" and "Ikenaka Genta 80 Kilo," as well as the NHK historical dramas "Tobu ga Gotoku" and "The Eighth Shogun Yoshimune." He also made his presence known in films. He starred in "Tsuribaka Nisshi" from 1988. He played "Hamacchan," a perennially rank-and-file employee who loves fishing more than getting promoted, and the series became a national hit, succeeding "Otoko wa Tsurai yo."
