Luís Eduardo Magalhães is a city located in the state of Bahia, Brazil. Its history is relatively recent, dating back to the end of the 20th century. The municipality was created by State Law No. 4,579, of August 14, 1985, separating it from the municipality of Barreiras. The region where the city is located was originally inhabited by indigenous communities. The effective occupation of the area began with the arrival of European colonizers, mainly in the context of the agricultural expansion in the western region of Bahia. The economy of the area has always been strongly linked to agriculture, with emphasis on grain production, especially soybeans. The city was named Luís Eduardo Magalhães in honor of the Brazilian politician Luís Eduardo Magalhães, who was a federal deputy and president of the Chamber of Deputies. He played a significant role in national politics, being an advocate of agribusiness and regional development. The creation of the municipality of Luís Eduardo Magalhães was driven by the economic development of the region, especially in the agricultural area. The city became an important agro-industrial hub, with emphasis on the production of grains, cotton and livestock. Over the years, Luís Eduardo Magalhães experienced rapid population growth and urbanization, with the arrival of migrants seeking opportunities in agriculture and related sectors. The city's infrastructure was expanded to meet the growing demands of the population.
