Animals exhibit various asymmetries in behavior. The distribution of asymmetries is enigmatic, however, because it is not uniform in all individuals: a minority percentage exhibits a reversed asymmetry (as in left-handedness in humans). A new idea, based on mathematical game theory, could explain this phenomenon. He is the author of more than 250 scientific articles (with over 12,000 citations) and of several popular books; the most recent is “Divided Brains” (with LJ Rogers and RJ Andrew), Cambridge Univ. Press (tr. it. Mondadori, 2016). He was awarded the Geoffroy Saint Hilaire Prize for ethology. In addition to scientific research, he is actively involved in popularization, collaborating with the cultural pages of various newspapers.
