Scientists call the fear we learn to feel from a traumatic experience aversive memory. It is different from innate fear – the one we carry in our genes. A study conducted at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB) at USP showed that the brain processing of learned fear is different from innate fear. The researchers described the brain circuit responsible for this processing in an article published in the journal Cerebral Cortex.
