On January 27, 1945, the Red Army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp; the symbol of the mass murder of millions during the Nazi tyranny in large parts of Europe. Every year at the end of January, the Bavarian State Parliament, together with the Bavarian Memorials Foundation, commemorates the victims of the Holocaust in a memorial ceremony.
