Cracks in the asphalt, traffic bottlenecks, lack of walkways and an average of almost five accidents per day in 2023. This is the reality of BR-040 on the eve of the end of privatization, scheduled for next Friday (August 18). Under the management of Via 040 for almost a decade, the highway will be returned to the federal government with only 78 km duplicated of the 557.2 km foreseen in the contract, five walkways of the 50 promised in the notice and a death toll that puts it ahead of the “highway of death”, BR-381. The O TEMPO report traveled along BR-040 and heard complaints from drivers and those who live along the highway.
