The young of the mullet that live in various parts of Japan are called Haku and gather in large groups, making them an easy target for sea bass to prey on. From spring to the end of the rainy season, they become more dependent on it, and you can often see them boiling hard even during the day in rivers and canals. However, in contrast to the intense boils in broad daylight, the reaction from sea bass is extremely weak. There are many possible reasons for this, but the main one is the small size of the bait itself. Most are about 2 to 5 cm. Sea bass can easily prey on them because they gather in countless numbers, but the image is that they do not eat them as if they are targeting a single lure, but rather pounce on the school. Therefore, it is very difficult to attract and get them to eat a single lure. Even so, it is still easy to catch them in river areas with a current, but it becomes even more difficult in an environment where there is no current and the water is shallow, such as Lake Hinuma, a brackish lake, where it is difficult to narrow down the target area. Not only in the early morning and evening, but also in the middle of the day, sea bass are attractive because they boil, but because of the difficulty, even local experts don't dare to target them. We asked tester Taguchi to take on the difficult task of catching such an impregnable daytime Haku pattern. The water was muddy due to the rain that continued for days, and on the day of the shoot, it was cold, which was hard to believe it was the end of June. The boil area, which was close to 100% in the preliminary survey, was almost silent on this day. On top of the difficulty of catching them, the climate changed suddenly. The situation was such that the preliminary survey was completely meaningless. Still, we trusted the potential of Hakone and the experience of the anglers and took on the challenge. In the preliminary situation, they had managed to catch them by fishing with the Jinpen 75, which will be released soon, and the new product Funky Dart this spring. The appearance of the Funky Dart in particular seemed to be a big deal, and they were quite addicted to it, catching a ranker suddenly. In the morning, the top was used, and when the sun rose, the follow-up with a Dart Vibe was strong. On the day, we proceeded along this pattern. I was worried about the small number of boils, but I caught one early on. I moved and caught a lot with a funky dart, and the catch was impressive while the others around me were not catching anything. After that, I explored various areas of Lake Hakone in search of the boil festival. I arrived at an area where a strong group of haku was boiling. Due to the headwind, a large number of haku gathered near the shore. Inevitably, the sea bass boil also occurred near the shore, right in front of the angler, limiting the casting course and making it difficult. Even so, there were bites early on, and the sea bass were not able to get through it. After several times, Taguchi Tester had an idea. He suddenly changed the lure to the Levin Mini, which he said is often used to catch young ayu and sometimes for haku, but he suddenly chose a lure that did not seem to work particularly well in the daily surveys. This is where it got amazing. Immediately after the change, there was an immediate hit. He caught it firmly and it seemed that he was still not sure if his prediction was correct. However, he caught three in a row from the same position. He was convinced that he had completely gotten the fishing method right. After that, the hits continued one after another in a short time, as if the struggles up until now were a lie. Even when the boil settled and he moved, he was still hooked strongly. He was surprised and happy that he was able to further brush up on his usage of the Levin Mini. The color also became biased, and only the lime chart head clear got a bite. Along the way, he tried proven colors such as do chart matte, chart pearl, and UV full plating, but there was no bite. When he switched back to lime chart clear, the fish immediately got a bite. Although such a bias is rare, he stopped after once again realizing the bias unique to day games. The end of the rainy season is one of the indicators for the Haku boil.
