Weight and diameter information are approximate values. Motif: Westminster with octave The smallest bell was added at the request of the bell expert and made in a minor sixth rib. The bells were not put into the tower until a year after they were cast; with the exception of the smallest, they had to be wound up inside. The Christ Church was built next to the Bochum Association between 1877 and 1879 in the centre of Bochum with the high neo-Gothic tower made of Oberkirchner sandstone as a "response" to the industrial chimneys. The planners were the Krefeld architectural firm Hartel and Quester, and the master builder was the Bochum-based Heinrich Schwenger. The celebratory speech stated that "when the call of the bells announces danger to the fatherland, everyone is ready to do their duty for king and fatherland", which already proved to be true in 1914. From 1925 to 1931 the entrance hall was converted into a memorial hall and 1,358 names were installed as a mosaic, as well as the countries involved in the World War. the latter was actually irreconcilable, whereas in the church public preaching was done against National Socialism (Bochum Confessions). In 1943 bombs fell on Bochum and also destroyed the nave, the wooden floor under the belfry and the old bells. In 1959 the new nave was inaugurated, set back slightly to illustrate the break with the past without denying it. For cost reasons, steel bells were purchased to replace the destroyed bells. Despite the a°'s counter-pendulum system, the ringing causes the free-standing tower to vibrate too much (in the 1990s fragments even fell from the tower), which is why the plenum only rings once a year: In remembrance of the attacks of September 11, 2001, the bells ring on that day between 2:46 p.m. and 3:03 p.m., exactly the time when the two planes hit the World Trade Center. The church itself has since been converted into a church of cultures, and services are now held only irregularly. The renovation of the tower was carried out under the leadership of the board of trustees founded in 1998, whose purpose is to preserve the tower as a monument against violence. ---------- Since there is no high-quality exterior photo yet... No, I don't need such arrogant nonsense. I just wanted to experience the bells for myself. Then there's no need to use other people's photos and sound recordings.
