Boat trip on the Heuwieke Fehntjer Tief to the Timmelermeer, then back via the Rorichummertief. The Fehntjer Tief is a river in East Frisia. The Fehntjer Tief runs from the municipality of Großefehn in the Aurich district in a westerly direction to Emden. It is drained by the Oldersumer Sieltief. In the western part, the water flows eastwards (contrary to what most maps show). Large parts of the interior of East Frisia are drained via the Fehntjer Tief; boat tourism is also of great importance, as most of the depression can also be navigated by motorised boats. The Fehntjer Tief uses sections of the former Flumm river and was considerably widened during the colonisation of the fens. Today's Timmeler Meer was artificially created in the 1980s and is used both for tourism and for local recreation. It is directly connected to the Boekzeteler Meer nature reserve. The creation of the artificial lake on the one hand and the designation of the Boekzeteler Meer as a nature reserve on the other served to balance the interests of conservationists and the tourism industry. The Timmeler Meer is a central part of the tourism concept for the climatic health resort of Timmel. The sea has a bathing beach and a leisure harbor and is lined with holiday homes and camping sites.
