Rintje Ritsma shows these different types of blasting grit. You can buy these blasting media here: https://www.datona.nl/straalmiddel-ko... If you are looking for a blasting media, Datona has it for you. We have made an outdoor setup with three different types of blasting media to blast this block. The block that is going into the revision so we can just try out different types here: What works well? We have chosen soft blasting media. The first is a walnut granulate. That is a very soft, naturally soluble agent. It is mainly used on, for example, engine block soot deposits, so to remove the dirt. The second is soda, also biodegradable, just use the garden hose on it or a little rainwater and it is actually gone. It is also for the softer materials, softer surfaces. Aluminum could work well if there was a small thin layer of paint on it, and the last is glass bead. Well, glass bead, the name says it all, there is a kind of glass in it which is a bit more aggressive on the product. We are going to try those three on this block. It is a two-stroke block, two and a half, beautiful classic in a restoration project and eventually it should be very beautiful again. We are going to connect everything and start with the walnut granulate. We put on a mask against the dust. Well you can actually see that this does not do that much so this material is actually still too hard so softer surfaces or dirt that goes well with it. We are going to try the second, that is the soda, this is also a kettle especially for soda. That should work just fine. Well this one does a bit more. For example, you see a paint part, then you see that only some discoloration occurs, but the desired result is not yet what we want. Then we are now going to do the last variant, the glass bead. The air. Now and then we already see that with the last one the result is really great. The other one just disappears and it is almost impossible to see what we have done there. I did a little bit of this then you see a little bit of effect with the soda but yes, if the block is completely like this again then it is great so we are going to do it with glass beads but we are going to do that completely in the blasting cabinet. Yes and this is the final result when it comes out of the blasting cabinet with glass beads. We tried soda and we tried walnut granulate but glass beads are really the bomb. Really great result! Actually just like new.
