Over the Christmas holidays of 2024, I will be hiking on the Westweg through the Black Forest. Last year, I began my first multi-day hike on the northern stages from Pforzheim to Hausach. Despite its adversities, the wintry atmosphere in the Black Forest impressed me greatly. So it's time to complete the Westweg this winter and continue walking from Hausach to Basel. For eight days, I will immerse myself in the experience again, enjoying the scenic beauty and battling with the pitfalls of snow. The first episode covers the first two days on the Westweg. A morning start in Hausach with an eventful climb into the High Black Forest, where thunderstorms and snow await me. I spend the first night in the Hotel zur Schönen Aussicht. The second day to the Gasthaus zum Hirschen is then completed in the snowfall with two new equipment tests: What can crampons and waterproof socks do?
