On Friday, September 20th, 2019, the Hoamfahrerpass started from the Binsalm at around 8:00 a.m. and went steeply uphill towards the Lamsenjoch. The crossing was a risky affair, but Dominik says in the film: "We survived the Lamsen well." At 10 a.m. the cows passed the Lamsenjoch hut and at 12 p.m. the cattle crossed the Stallen Alm. After 5 ½ hours, everyone was in Stans, where the cows had a fresh pasture and the drivers had earned a beer. The next morning, the feet had rested, the cows had been milked and fed, and then the "Aufbischln" began. It was a very delicate matter, as none of the animals had ever seen an Almbuschen. After 2 hours, around 60 animals were decorated with traditional Almbuschen, bells and Tuschhafen. From Stans, we set off along the Tratzbergstraße to Jenbach. The pass went through Jenbach and didn't even stop at the traffic lights in Buch. On the old country road we went through Maurach and Rotholz. In Strass the drivers were challenged and had to get the cows over the railway crossing without colliding. After a short water break in Strass we went over the main road to Bruck am Ziller. The animals also had to accept the turnoff in St. Gertraudi. Through Bruck the cows rang their bells proudly as if they did it every year. After 3 ½ hours and over 40 km everyone was happy that everyone had arrived safely. Dominik and Michaela would like to thank all the drivers and helpers for making it all go so well. The Binsalm is a popular starting point for short and long hikes in the middle of the Karwendel. Rooms or camps can be booked at [email protected] or www.binsalm.at.
