'I can now say that I am doing well, but I have really climbed out of a very deep valley. It has been four years since I was acquitted. But I still carry the impact of that time with me. The accusations, the struggle to clear a name. The powerlessness I felt at the time', says former radicalisation official Saadia Ait-Taleb who was given a disciplinary dismissal in 2017 for suspicions of corruption and fraud. In the media, Ait-Taleb was portrayed as a 'corrupt official with a Moroccan network'. 'The media is quick to follow a certain narrative. Especially when it concerns people with a migration background. We have seen that in the past two weeks', says Ait-Taleb. 'I hope that this story will teach people how damaging misrepresentation can be because once you end up in the media, you become a public figure and it is simply impossible to defend yourself against these kinds of accusations. And then you have to continue to have faith and trust in the rule of law'. According to Lisa Scheerder, author of the novel Blaam, which is about the Ait-Taleb case, saw too little contradiction surrounding the director.
