A slum, in the middle of Berlin? Until last weekend, around a hundred people lived in Germany's largest homeless camp on Rummelsburg Bay. An area the size of half a football field, filled with shopping carts and self-made huts. The camp was cleared last weekend - allegedly because of the freezing temperatures. However, something else has been planned for the area for some time: an aquarium is to be built as a tourist attraction. Before the evacuation, reporter Samuel Häde spends several days with the camp's residents. Firstly, there is Vladko, who has been addicted to alcohol since his youth and has found a community in the camp that accepts him. He shows Samuel his accommodation, built from tarpaulins, in which he has lived for three years. And then there is the family father Donje, who has been living in the camp with his wife and children for a week and is waiting for a job in construction. Who is responsible for these people? Samuel meets the district mayor Kevin Hönicke (SPD). He says there are simply no other places in the district where the camp residents could stay. Two days later, the eviction comes unexpectedly, much earlier than expected. With the help of the Senate Administration, accommodation was found for the residents - but there was no advance warning. The next day, under police protection, they begin demolishing the empty huts with excavators.
