About the author: (B.1912 - D.1945) Keikiçi Osaka, whose real name is Fukutaro Suzuki, was born in Shinshiro, Aichi Prefecture. At the age of twenty, he published his first story, "The Mystery Shop Killer," on the advice of his mentor Saburo Koga. A pioneer of the bankaku genre, in which logic rather than the supernatural played an important role, Osaka wrote more than thirty stories between 1932 and 1945. Most of his stories had three constant characteristics: a case that seemed logically impossible or even supernatural, an unusual mysterious setting, and an amateur detective who solved the mystery. When he was a writer of crime and murder stories, the public and the government began to view them as objectionable, so Osaka stopped writing in this genre. He was later sent to the Philippines during World War II and died of illness on the island of Luzon.
