We visit the eel smokehouse of Jan Smit (no, not that one but the other one), the Volendam museum with the cigar band house and we learn about the history of the Volendam fishing industry. What is a botter, how did they keep the fish fresh on those botters and what was the deal with the gold of the Lutine? How come so many singers and bands have roots in Volendam? Harmen Veerman of the band Left Side has a theory about that. And of course, like so many tourists and famous Dutch people, we have our picture taken in Volendam costume.
