In the 90s, many cars began to leave the factory equipped with this same locking system but with the ease of locking only the driver's door and automatically locking all the others together. In the 2000s, the integration of this locking system with the alarm began to become popular, making the system even more automated, now with a simple touch of the alarm control button, all the car doors can be locked and unlocked. But with technological ease there is always a side effect, and in this case it requires earlier maintenance than if it were just a manual lock, because now there is also an electric motor that activates every time the alarm is activated. In the manual system, the driver only unlocked the desired door, and now all of them always activate. The convenience is great and we trust it, but when the electric lock on one of the doors is faulty, it takes a while to identify it, and until the problem is fixed, the car becomes vulnerable, making life easier for thieves. To greatly increase the lifespan of the electric lock and avoid this period of the car being unprotected, we must pay attention to three details. The first of these concerns the passenger more than the driver, and is the act of moving the car's door handle to open the door at the same time that it is being unlocked. The car's lock cannot handle both movements at the same time and does not perform either of them correctly. In the best case scenario, the door in question does not unlock, but in more serious cases, the lock may become unregulated and require maintenance. Whenever the electric lock is prevented from performing its full movement, the internal motor will overheat and wear out quickly. Avoid activating the alarm with the car door open. This is the driver's concern; you must wait for all passengers to close the door before activating the alarm and then locking the doors. Remember that most locks do not lock correctly when the door is open, and this causes the same premature wear on the lock motor as we mentioned earlier. Anti-seize spray does not work miracles. Over time, it is natural for the lock to accumulate dust and dirt that become encrusted, making it difficult for the lock mechanisms to move. Again, when the electric lock has difficulty moving, the motor wears out prematurely. When you notice that the lock pin is heavy to lower or lift or has difficulty opening and closing the door, then you need to remove the lock and wash it with kerosene to remove all the old grease that has accumulated. After that, dry it with forced air or wait half an hour for it to dry well and apply petroleum jelly or grease to the moving gears to improve their movement and smooth the operation of the lock. This will improve the user's use and will make the work of the electric lock much easier, considerably increasing its useful life.
