Already in 1961, the Yugoslav Drama Theater tackled the literary work of Dobrica Ćosić. There was "Revelation" which was based on a part of the first book "The Division", the scene in the church. That play, based on the dramatization by Miroslav Belović and Jovan Ćirilov, and directed by Mate Milošević and Predrag Bajčetić, was a great success and spread the fame of the Yugoslav Drama Theater beyond the borders of the country. Based on the echoes of that success, many years later, the JDP staged "Battle of Kolubara" in 1983, and then in 1989, "Valje Hospital", both dramatized by Borislav Mihajlović Mihiz, which he dramatized based on the central parts of Ćosić's novel "Time of Death". . The first performance was directed by Arsenije Jovanović, and the second by Dejan Mijač. It has been shown, however, that Ćosić's literature is too layered and that even a skilled and talented dramatist such as Mihiz does not succeed in fully translating all the flows of Ćosić's novel into the relevant stage structure of these plays. The "Battle of Kolubar" was particularly badly rated. It was said that there is too much recitation, that the touch of "telephone dramaturgy" on the one hand successfully resolves some stage flows, but at the same time prevents the actors from developing the relationship between the characters in direct contact. However, Miša Janketić as Vojvoda Mišić and Predrag Laković in the role of Tola Dačić stood out. "Valjevska bolnica" directed by Mijač fared much better and, with reservations about the dramatization, everyone emphasized the multi-layered characters, above all Milan Gutović in the role of Major Stanković and Svetlana Bojković in the role of Nadežda Petrović. However, both plays were performed for a long time and their success can certainly be connected with the newly created social circumstances in Serbia and the attitude towards Ćosić's work. Both performances were recorded for television in 1990. Label and copyright: Radio-television of Serbia Any copying of video and/or audio recordings and placement on other channels is prohibited!
