Camp Carroll is an artillery base built by the US Marine Corps in 1966 and named after Captain James J. Carroll who was killed by fire from an American tank during an operation. Located 8km southwest of Cam Lo town, this base played an important role in cutting off Route 9, controlling the Ho Chi Minh trail to prevent support from the Liberation Army and being able to provide fire support for operations in the Demilitarized Zone along the 17th parallel. On the first day of 1972, the Liberation Army organized the Spring Summer Campaign 1972 (also known as the Red Summer 1972) to attack on the Tri Thien front in Tactical Zone I. Camp Carroll was isolated and heavily shelled by 130mm artillery for 4 consecutive days. Unable to withstand the high density of shelling, on April 2, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Dinh - commander of the 56th ARVN regiment stationed at the base surrendered to the Liberation Army. The above event was a big surprise in the Vietnam War, and despite many mixed opinions, this was still a humane decision that prevented a bloody battle, saving the lives of many soldiers on both sides. -------------------------------------- If you find the video interesting, don't forget to click LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and SHARE. ▶️ Channel address: https://www.youtube.com/c/TungTangKhác... ▶️ For more information, please contact: [email protected] We look forward to receiving your support and comments.
