The Battle of An Loc was a battle in the Red Summer of 1972 launched by the Liberation Army in Binh Long province (old), now part of Binh Phuoc province. This was one of the three main battlefields taking place throughout the South. The Liberation Army participating in the campaign to attack An Loc town included three main divisions: 5th, 7th, 9th and coordinated forces such as air defense, artillery, armored vehicles... with a total of about 35,000 soldiers. To defend An Loc town, the Army of the Republic of Vietnam had the 5th Infantry Division, 1 Ranger Group, and the Civil Defense and Regional Forces of Binh Long province. During the battle, the Republic of Vietnam mobilized an additional 25,000 troops to relieve An Loc. Faced with the isolation of the Liberation Army, the Republic of Vietnam declared a death-defending defense of An Loc. The battles in the heart of the town between the soldiers of the 81st Airborne Ranger Group of the Republic of Vietnam and the Liberation Army were very fierce, causing heavy casualties.
