In March 1584 during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, Oda Nobukatsu, head of the Oda clan, allied with neighboring Tokugawa Ieyasu and raised an army. Under Ieyasu's instructions, he surrounded Hashiba with the Negoro and Saika clans, and the Chosokabe clan of Shikoku, preparing for a long-term war by dispersing the forces of the Hashiba army. On the other hand, Hideyoshi saw this battle as a battle for supremacy with Ieyasu that could not be avoided in order to unify the country, and sent Kuroda Kanbei to suppress the Mori clan, Hachisuka Koroku and Ikoma Chikamasa to defend Osaka Castle, Nakamura Kazuuji and Manabe Sadanari to suppress Kishu, and Sengoku Hidehisa, Konishi Yukinaga and other naval forces to reinforce the Shikoku Togawa clan, and left Osaka for Ise and Owari with the remaining main force of 70,000. Hideyoshi entrusted his younger brother Hidenaga with a separate force for the invasion of Ise, and the main Hashiba force entered Rakuden Castle in northern Owari to confront the Oda-Tokugawa forces. Hideyoshi wanted to bring the battle to a decisive end immediately, but Ieyasu remained holed up in the fortress of Komakiyama Castle and would not come out. Getting impatient, Hideyoshi came up with a plan to "enter Mikawa" and send 20,000 Hashiba troops under his nephew Hashiba Nobuyoshi (later Hidetsugu) as commander to attack Okazaki Castle in Mikawa Province, but the plan was soon leaked and the last of the Hashiba Nobuyoshi forces were annihilated by a surprise attack by the Oda-Tokugawa forces. Thanks to Hori Hidemasa's quick thinking, Nobuyoshi managed to retreat, but the isolated forces of Mori Nagayoshi and Ikeda Tsuneoki were ambushed by the Oda-Tokugawa forces in Nagakute on their way back, and were killed after a fierce battle. Hideyoshi suffered a major defeat in the Battle of Nagakute, and this story was to change his strategy drastically. This is the sequel to the series.
