<Mōri Series, Episode 16> The time is the middle of the Sengoku period, in the 11th year of Tenbun (1542), and following the death of Amago Tsunehisa, grandfather of Amago Haruhisa, lord of Izumo Province, Ouchi Yoshitaka, the guardian of Suo, Nagato, Iwami, and Aki, decides to subjugate the Amago. He personally commands an army of tens of thousands and invades Izumo. However, he is unable to take the Amago's castle, Gassan-Toda Castle, and is annihilated by a surprise attack from Amago Haruhisa, who had been waiting for an opportunity. It is a major defeat, with many of his retainers lost, including Ouchi Yoshitaka's eldest son, Harumichi. Following his victory, Haruhisa recovers the western Izumo territory that had been taken by the Ouchi forces, and also succeeds in recapturing the Omori silver mine in Iwami. Furthermore, with Yamauchi and Yamana of Bingo switching sides to the Amago faction, he sets his sights on subjugating Bingo. He appoints Amago Kunihisa, head of the Amago's elite Shingu Party, as the commander of the subjugation army and sends him south. Meanwhile, Ouchi Yoshitaka, who had failed in his campaign against the Amago clan and had lost his legitimate son, retreated to Kosekiji Temple and distanced himself from politics. Worried about the defection of subordinate provinces and invasions by hostile daimyo due to the decline in prestige, the Ouchi Council of Ministers came up with a desperate measure to obtain an adopted son from the Otomo clan, with whom they had a bitter rivalry. This plan coincided with the interests of Otomo Yoshiaki, who was struggling to govern Higo, and Yoshiaki's second son, Otomo Shiotsumaru, was adopted into the Ouchi clan and changed his name to Ouchi Haruhide, forging a strong bond between the Ouchi and Otomo clans. With the two great daimyo of the western provinces now related by blood, the winds blowing against the Amago clan ceased, but one person who failed to read this trend was Yamana Michioki, head of the Bingo Yamana clan, who had switched to the Amago faction. Michioki set out to seize the territory of the Numata Kobayakawa clan, who had lost their lord in the Izumo collapse. However, this move was seen through by Motonari Mori, who led the Aki Province lords, and Takakane Hironaka, the deputy governor of Aki Province, and Yamana was counterattacked, resulting in a major blunder that reduced his territory rather than expanding it. The Shingu Party, which tried to rescue Yamana, was also forced to retreat due to the valiant efforts of Miyoshi and the other northern Bingo Province lords. An unexpected visitor comes to visit Amako Haruhisa, who is outraged by the news that the Shingū Party has been defeated...
