On the day of Saint Isabel, July 2, a very special pilgrimage is held around the hermitage of La Antigua, located on the hill of the mountain that surrounds Zumarraga. There, the dantzaris dance the Ezpatadantza de la Antigua in honor of the Virgin, first on their knees and then standing, making figures in the air with their swords. It is an ancient dance, although there are doubts about the time in which it was created. There is data that indicates that the pilgrimage of La Antigua was created in 1539, and although some experts claim that there is data that reveals that the Ezpata-Dantza is from that time, it cannot be known with certainty if the dance was created in that same year. Even so, what is confirmed is that it was part of that great festival around the dance celebrated back in 1656.
