For me, Banská Štiavnica is perhaps at the very top of the list of the most beautiful places in Slovakia. The former mining town is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and there is nothing to be surprised about. Banská Štiavnica was the richest source of silver and gold in Europe. 250 tons of gold and 1.5 tons of silver were mined in the entire Štiavnica region. Mining creates a unique atmosphere in the city. The center of Banská Štiavnica is ideal for a romantic walk, as you will find a huge number of historical monuments and attractions in a small area.
