Bangkok Noi is an important area on the Thonburi side. This area has important places such as “Siriraj Hospital”, a famous shopping area such as “Wang Lang Market”, or is a location that is an important scene in the famous novel “Koo Kam”. In 1899, King Rama V ordered the construction of the first section of the southern railway line, with Bangkok Noi Station as the starting point to Phetchaburi Province, to be a route for transporting goods between Bangkok and the western and southern regions. In 1945, the Allies brought in a large bombing campaign, causing damage to the Japanese base at the railway station, with many people injured and killed. After World War II ended in 1950, the area around Thonburi Station was renovated and a new station building was built along the Chao Phraya River. The station building was completed in 1950 and operated by the railway until 1999. The area along Khlong Bangkok Noi next to the railway station was transformed into Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital, and the original Thonburi Railway Station building was built as the Siriraj Phimukhsathan Museum.
