This Thursday, November 21, the sad news of the death of the incomparable Danelo Badell, known as “El Cañón de la Gaita”, at the age of 73 was known. Danelo Enrique Badell Galué was born on November 26, 1950 in Maracaibo, that is, he was about to turn 74 years old. He is considered a symbol of Zulianism. He was a composer, singer, union leader and telecommunications technician, like my father, so he was a friend and work colleague. Danelo and his legacy are known in the gaita environment as “El Cañón de la Gaita”. This glory of Zulian folklore was for several years president of the Ricardo Aguirre Municipal Gaita Institute, Imgra, where he worked magic to know how to manage the few resources he had. During his long and successful career he participated in a dozen gaita groups such as Lagomar, Tropicales del Éxito, Santanita, Cardenales del Éxito, Universidad de la Gaita, Gran Coquivacoa, Gaiteros de Pillopo, VHG, Estrellas del 2000, Iluminación Gaitera and Gaiteros del 35. ????
