SRF correspondent Christof Franzen has always been fascinated by choral music, and singing in a professional choir has long been a dream of his. Now St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Russia, has invited him to a casting. If he manages to reach a respectable level by the big Christmas mass, he will be allowed to sing with the experienced singers. Will his plan work and will Christof Franzen be able to hit all the notes right by the Russian Christmas? There are still big doubts. St. Isaac's Cathedral is not just any cathedral. The interior is gleaming with blue marble from Afghanistan, artistic mosaics and 17-meter-high columns adorn the 19th-century classicist building. Singing with one of the city's best choirs in front of this impressive backdrop would be a Russian winter fairytale. And suddenly Christof Franzen is backstage in the lives of the choir singers and gets to know their very own St. Petersburg, behind the golden curtain of the Tsar's city. After ten years as a Russia correspondent, Christof Franzen is returning to Switzerland. At the end of his time, he wants to tackle completely new challenges – his very own Russia adventure.
