Today she is 18, has finished high school and is returning to Switzerland: “I’m just a Schächentalerin.” To do this, she is leaving her family, who are staying in the USA. Her father Walter struggles with this, but puts on a brave face. Sister Stefanie was on a mission in Africa for more than 50 years; she worked in children’s homes, helped poor people, and prayed. Now, at 88, she finally wants to go home. But saying goodbye is not easy. For many people in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's largest city, Stefanie was an important point of contact. "They are sad that I am going home," she says. Is it really the right decision to return to the mother house, the Baldegg monastery in the Lucerne Seeland? "I love Switzerland, I owe everything to it," says Shaimir Shala. He fled here from Kosovo at the age of six and went to school, university and had a career here.
