Babak Karimi (born November 10, 1955 in Prague) is an Iranian actor and editor. He won the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival with the cast of Nader's Separation from Simin. Babak Karimi is the son of Nosrat Karimi and A'lam Danaei, a veteran Iranian theater actor. After spending his elementary school years in Tehran, Karimi went to Italy and, after studying art, taught cinema at the Centro Experimentale Cinema University in Rome. He graduated from the Rossellini Institute in Rome. In addition to appearing in documentary projects as a director, cinematographer, and editor in various countries, Karimi has edited the feature films Placiro Rizzoto, Marquis, and Rai Machif.[3] Asghar Farhadi chose him to appear in the role of a judge in Nader's Separation from Simin. Karimi has also starred in two other works by Asghar Farhadi, The Past and The Salesman.[4][5] He also starred in the film City of Stories.
