Lviv native Sviatoslav Siry has led the National Corps of Azov in Lviv since 2015. On the first day of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, he defended Mariupol, serving as an artilleryman. He was wounded during combat operations and was hospitalized at the Azovstal plant. Together with other Ukrainian fighters, Sviatoslav Siry left Azovstal and spent almost a year in Russian captivity. He returned to Ukraine from captivity in May 2023. He is still undergoing rehabilitation. The fighter told Radio Liberty about how Mariupol faced a full-scale war and about the injuries he suffered in Russian captivity.
