Published on Jan 8, 2015 Machadinho dos 8 Baixos (Elton Dheimes) was born in Rafael Jambeiro in the municipality of Ipirá in the state of Bahia in 1994. Machadinho learned to play the 8-Bass Accordion with his father Beto dos 8 Baixos, a well-known accordionist in the region. Machadinho has a brother who also plays the 8-Bass Accordion, Galeguinho dos 8 Baixos, who has recorded 5 CDs and is also well-known in the Ipirá region. Machadinho has been playing the 8-Bass Accordion since he was 9 years old and, as he himself says, in his family this tradition has been passed down from father to son. Machadinho started playing 8 basses with natural tuning, but currently he also plays 8 basses with a transported tuning, which is used by the vast majority of accordionists living in the Southeast of Brazil, such as Zé Calixto, Truvinca dos 8 Baixos, Pé Duro, Zé Honório and others. This video was recorded in 2011, Machadinho was only 16 years old and was already playing this way. Machadinho dos 8 Baixos is currently 20 years old and playing much more, now he plays 8 basses in 2 different tunings, (natural and transported). Machadinho is currently the great revelation of the 8 bass accordion in the Northeast of Brazil. Until now, I have not seen anyone play Pé de Bode in both tunings (natural and transported) with the perfection that he plays.
