This prompts Detective Maigret and the search party to prepare a list of the city's fortune tellers. About the book The book "The Mysterious Signature" is part of the Detective Maigret series of stories, written by "Georges Simenon", a Belgian writer of detective novels. Simenon narrates the stories of a detective named "Magret" and his criminal cases. In most of Detective Maigret's cases, a murder or a suspicious incident has occurred that engages the reader with its criminal content. In the story of The Mysterious Signature, a man comes to the police with a letter. He claims that he wanted to write something down. In a cafe, he picked up a piece of paper and noticed traces of a previous letter on it. The paper read, "At five o'clock, a fortune teller will be killed." The police try to prevent this, but at five o'clock, the body of a fortune teller is found in her house; while a madman is also imprisoned in the kitchen.... About the author "Georges Simenon" was a Belgian writer. He has published nearly 200 novels and many short stories. Simenon is the creator of the character "Commissioner Maigret", one of the most famous detectives in police literature in the world. He was born on February 13, 1903 in the city of Liege, Belgium. His father "Désiré" was an accountant in an insurance company. Georges studied at the Saint-André School from 1908 to 1914, and at the outbreak of World War I in 1914, he went to the College of Saint-Louis, a Jesuit high school. Before 1918, he worked as an apprentice in a bookstore, but in January of that year, due to his father's illness, he left school and began working as a journalist for the Gazette de Liège. This job allowed him to deal with different groups and classes of people, such as those staying in cheap hotels and occasionally having to go to the police station, and to become well acquainted with their character and behavior. This acquaintance came in handy when he later became a writer. Working for the Gazette, a popular and prolific newspaper, helped him to master the skills of shorthand and rapid editing of written texts. The habit of shorthand remained with him until the end of his professional career; he could write and have an entire novel ready for publication in three hours! During his time at the Gazette, he wrote more than 150 articles under the pen name "Monsieur Lecoq" and published more than 800 humorous pieces under the name "Monsieur Lecoq" between 1919 and 1922. He wrote his first novel in June 1919 and published it under a pseudonym in 1921. In 1930, his beloved character, "Commissar Maigret", made his first appearance in a short story he wrote at the request of "Joseph Cassel" for publication in the detective magazine. Simenon lived in the Vendée during World War II, and it was during this time that he met "André Gide", the famous French writer. In 1945, after the Gestapo suspected him of being Jewish, he fled occupied France and went to America. In 1955 he returned to Europe, first to France and then to Switzerland. In 1972 he gave up writing fiction and began writing his autobiography. His novels are a mixture of masterful elaboration and intelligent dissection of the human psyche. He describes the fears, psychological complexes, mental tendencies and dependencies that lie hidden under the mask of ordinary and monotonous everyday life and suddenly lead to an unexpected explosion of violence and crime. He wrote more than 200 novels, 150 short stories, a scenario for a ballet, several volumes of autobiography (the first of which was published under the title "Intimate Memories" in 1981), countless articles and a large number of popular novels (purely for financial gain and using pseudonyms). But he is best known for his 75 novels and 28 short stories, in which "Commissar Maigret" is the hero. The first of them was published under the name "The Traveler Who Came with the North Star" in 1931 and the last one was "Megre and Monsieur Charles".
